SUFE-DAFI Holds 2025 First Day of School Lecture & Special Event for the 1st Anniversary of “YAO Yang Talks” Program | YAO Yang, WANG Boming, and LAN Xiaohuan Discuss China’s Economy and Corporate Paths Amid Global Changes
On the afternoon of September 13, 2025，the 2025 First Day of School Lecture and the special event for “YAO Yang Talks” (the “Event”) of Dishui Lake Advanced Finance Institute, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (“SUFE-DAFI” or the “Institute”) were successfully held at the Institute. Co-hosted by Hexun Wave, the “YAO Yang Talks” Program (the “Program”), and SUFE-DAFI, the Event focused on the theme of “China’s Economy and Corporate Paths Amid Global Changes”. It invited three distinguished guests for in-depth discussions: Professor YAO Yang, Dean of SUFE-DAFI, WANG Boming, Secretary-General of the China Securities Market Research and Design Center, and LAN Xiaohuan, Professor of China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). Thedr guests engaged in a lively exchange of ideas around changes in the international economic and trade pattern and corporate strategic choices.
As a key part of the orientation program for SUFE-DAFI’s 2025 new students, the Event attracted all new students and some members of the public to attend on site. At the start of the Event, a 1st-anniversary commemorative video of “YAO Yang Talks” Program was played, reviewing the Program’s exploration and impact in spreading economic ideas over the past year. Subsequently, Professor YAO Yang delivered a speech on the Program’s 1st anniversary, sharing the original intention of launching the Program and his expectations for its future.
The roundtable discussion was hosted by Secretary-General WANG Boming.
In the discussion, Professor YAO Yang stated that in response to external shocks, Chinese enterprises had demonstrated a strong ability to adjust their “Flexible Global Value Chains”, effectively coping with the volatile policy environment through measures such as factory layout optimization and quota adjustment. He also reminded that current macro policies should avoid returning to the path of “prioritizing supply over demand”; instead, they should strengthen support for structural consumption to prevent repeating the mistakes in resource allocation seen during the planned economy era.
From the perspective of corporate practice, Professor LAN Xiaohuan pointed out that industrial relocation was more driven by market competitiveness rather than a single tariff effect. He emphasized that the current “China+1” strategy should focus more on expanding into emerging market economies, rather than the traditional low-cost transfer model. Meanwhile, the impact of AI on the employment structure had already emerged in advance in the service industry, significantly affecting entry-level financial and legal positions. This required more inclusive social policies to provide support and security.
During the Q&A session at the end of the Event, SUFE-DAFI students interacted with the guests on real-world problems such as the development of ageing finance, the boundaries of economic models, and the development of the shipping industry, creating a lively on-site atmosphere.
As the “First Day of School Lecture” for the 2025 new students, the Event, through in-depth exchanges between ideological dialogues and practical topics, not only broadened the students’ macro perspective but also demonstrated the positive practice of the academic and media sectors jointly promoting public knowledge dissemination.
